Different mountain areas offer different opportunities for recreation, shopping, site seeing etc.
The first question I ask a client is "What do you want to do in the mountains?" or, " What do you think
you would like to do when you're in the mountains either at a get-a-way home or a retirement home?" 
How quickly do you want to be able to travel to areas such as:

1. Northern Suburbs of Atlanta for big mall shopping.
2. Downtown Atlanta.
3. Marietta, GA
4. Dahlonega
5. Gainsville


Other considerations.

1. Nearness to a good hospital. All of the NE Georgia mountain County seat towns have good hospitals.
(Blairsville, Blue Ridge, Ellijay, Hiawassee)


2. Distance from a lake (Lake Nottely, Lake Blue Ridge, Carters Lake, Lake Chatuge)


3. Distance to good mountain river trout fishing (Nottely River, Hiawassee River, Toccoa River,
Coosawattee River, Ellijay River, Cartacay River)


4. Distance to Wildlife Management Areas, National Forests, Hiking Trails, Appalachian Trail)

Once you have given consideration to the above noted ideas you can see which areas offer the most
of what it is you like to do in the mountains, or which area is most central to the things you like to do.

The most central area to all the mountain areas of Georgia is Blairsville, Union County, Georgia. The
areas central status is the reason Home Depot built their first North Georgia store in Blairsville. 
I am not favoring Union County over the other mountain counties. I have found property
that suited my clients need in all the counties featured. Each of the other counties have
wonderful features as you will see in the links provided below.

10 minutes to Young Harris, GA
15 minutes to Hiawassee, GA
20 minutes to Blur Ridge, GA
30 minutes to Ellijay, GA
45 Minutes to Dahlonega, GA
20 minutes to Murphy, NC
1-1/2 hours to Marietta, GA
1-1/2 hours to North Point Mall in North Metro Atlanta
